Duo carries tune at WB

Barrymore, Grant to duet on 'Music'

Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant will star in “Music and Lyrics By,” a romantic comedy scripted and directed by Marc Lawrence for Castle Rock.

Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures are financing, with production beginning March 27 in New York. Warners is aiming for a holiday bow at the end of the year.

Story involves a lyrics writer and a music writer-performer whose collaboration takes a romantic turn.

WB exec veep Courtenay Valenti is shepherding.

“Music and Lyrics By,” which will be exec produced by Barrymore’s Flower Films partner Nancy Juvonen and Village Roadshow topper Bruce Berman, is one of five imminent production starts for Castle Rock.

Production began Saturday on “Chaos Theory” for WB. On Monday Castle Rock began “Michael Clayton,” the Tony Gilroy-directed drama that is a co-production with Section Eight and Samuels Media. It will be distributed domestically by WB. Shooting starts Feb. 11 on the Greg Hoblit-directed “Fracture” for New Line. Director Scott Hicks begins shooting “Mostly Martha” on Feb. 27 for WB.

Grant is a staple of romantic comedies like “Love Actually,” the “Bridget Jones” pics and “Notting Hill.” He recently completed “American Dreamz” for Universal.

Barrymore most recently starred in Fox’s “Fever Pitch” and just completed “Lucky You” for Warner Bros. She also voiced a character in Universal’s upcoming “Curious George.”

Lawrence made his feature directing debut on the Grant-Sandra Bullock comedy “Two Weeks Notice,” another pic made by WB, Castle Rock and Village Roadshow Pictures.
