China welcomes ‘Warrior’

Pic is first Finnish release on Mainland

The joint Sino-Finnish fantasy epic “Jade Warrior” (Jadesoturi) will premiere in 70 Chinese cities on Oct. 24, with around 150 prints hitting the cinemas.

Blending a brooding northern European saga and Chinese kung fu theatrics, “Jade Warrior” is the first Finnish film theatrically released in China, and the number of prints puts it up there with many Hollywood movies for distribution.

Inspired by the Finnish national epic “Kalevala,” pic is helmed by Finn AJ Annila. It bowed at Toronto International Film Festival and will have its Finnish debut on Oct. 23.

Marketing will include events in Beijing, Guangzhou and other major cities.

International sales are handled by Rezo Films.

Pic was produced by Petri Jokiranta and Tero Kaukomaa of Blind Spot Pictures together with San Fu Maltha of Fu Works, Peter Loehr of Ming Prods. and Margus Ounapuu of Film Tower 3.
