“Strangers With Candy,” the Stephen Colbert and Paul Dinello scripted comedy, has been chosen as the opening film for the 18th annual NewFest, Gotham’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender film festival.
Pic follows the fortunes of a middle-aged, drug-addled prostitute who decides to turn over a new leaf and return to college as a freshman.
Penned as a prequel to the Comedy Central series of the same name, film stars Amy Sedaris, Colbert, and Dinello, with Dinello also directing. Philip Seymour Hoffman, Matthew Broderick, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Ian Holm also feature.
NewFest runs for 10 days from June 1 and is hosted by AMC Loewes.
