Upcoming films for the new office will include 'Pirates,' 'Spider-Man 3,' 'Enchanted'
Buena Vista Intl. and Sony Pictures Releasing Intl. have announced a joint venture to distribute their respective films in the fast-growing Russian market effective Jan. 1.
Russia will be the 15th territory in which the two are partners. The studios have similar joint ventures in Brazil, Mexico, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand; BVI will distribute Sony films in Norway, Finland and Denmark beginning in January.
BVI and Sony also work together in Switzerland, India and Taiwan.
“The size, importance and growth of the Russian market have made it essential for us to create our own organization and to be actively involved in the sales and marketing of each title,” said Mark Zoradi, president of Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group.
BVI distributed films in Russia through Cascade for the past eight years.
Upcoming films for the new office will include “Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World’s End,” “Spider-Man 3,” “Ratatouille,” “Enchanted,” “The Pursuit of Happyness,” “Surf’s Up” and “Ghost Rider.”
