“Summer Palace” will open a new indie fest in Berlin.
“Around the world in 14 films” is the motto of the new Berlin Independent Festival, which will take place between Dec. 1-9 at Babylon Cinema. Fest will show 14 indie pics from 14 different regions around the world with Lou Ye’s “Summer Palace” being the Chinese entry.
Lou Ye, who was banned from working in China for five years by the Chinese censors because of the pic, will attend.
Like “Summer Palace,” which screened in Cannes earlier this year, each pic in the fest’s lineup has already been shown at leading fests such as Cannes, Locarno and Venice and is yet to find a Teuton distrib. The indie fest also excludes pics that have already screened at the Berlinale.
All films will be introduced by a different Teuton helmer, including Oscar Roehler (“Elementary Particles”) and Christoph Hochhausler (“Low Profile”).
