Toni Collette and Keisha Castle-Hughes (“Whale Rider”) have signed on to star in “Hey, Hey, It’s Esther Blueburger,” written and directed by Cathy Randall.
Shooting is skedded for October in Sydney and Adelaide, Australia.
Los Angeles-based Lightning Entertainment is introducing the pic to worldwide distributors next week in Cannes.
“Esther Blueburger” is a comedy about a 13-year-old’s adventures as she attempts to navigate the pressures of family, school and her impending bat mitzvah.
Miriam Stein is producing. Heather Ogilvie and Stephen Hays exec produce.
Buena Vista Intl. will release the pic in Australia and New Zealand. Lightning will handle sales for the rest of the world, including the U.S.
Randall, a former journalist who has won awards for her short films, developed “Esther Blueburger” while attending Los Angeles Film School.
Collette is shooting Lakeshore Entertainment’s “The Dead Girl.” She’ll next be seen in Fox Searchlight’s Sundance darling “Little Miss Sunshine.”
Castle-Hughes is filming New Line’s “Nativity.”
