‘Apocalypto’ now with Constantin

German distrib also released Gibson's 'Passion'

BERLIN — Constantin Film has picked up Mel Gibson’s Mayan epic “Apocalypto.”

The German distrib on Tuesday presented the pic as part of its 2006 lineup at the Munich Film Week tradeshow.

Constantin released Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ,” which made $10.2 million in German cinemas in 2004.

Gibson’s latest work, a mythic tale chronicling the beginning of the end of the Mayan civilization, is being shot in Mexico. Pic will be released by Disney in the U.S.

Constantin also will release the up-coming “Basic Instinct 2” and local productions such as teen adventure “Die wilden Huehner,” classic tyke tale “The Robber Hotzenplotz” and polter-geist comedy “Hui Buh, the Castle Ghost.”
