NEW YORK — Anjelica Huston is headed back behind the camera, signing on to direct “Give Us a Kiss,” a comic-drama set in the Ozarks that has been acquired by Focus.
Pic is based on the novel by Daniel Woodrell, a comic novelist who has penned books about hijinx in poorer regions of the Midwestern mountain range. Angus MacLachlan, who scripted “Junebug,” is attached to adapt the Woodrell tome.
Woodrell’s novel concerns a crime novelist, his underachieving brother and a pot deal gone awry.
Paul Sandberg will produce.Huston is also exec producing the film through her Gray Angel Prods.; shingle’s Jaclyn Bashoff is co-producing.
Huston has directed pics with a similar milieu, including drama “Bastard Out of Carolina.” She also helmed and starred in “Agnes Browne,” produced by defunct indie banner October Films.
Woodrell has provided source material to Focus before — he is the author of “Woe to Live On,” which became company’s Ang Lee pic “Ride With the Devil.”
