The Weinstein Co. has bought all U.S. rights to Wong Kar Wai’s “My Blueberry Nights,” a road movie set in the U.S. and starring American actors.
Project marks auteur’s first full English-language production. Company also picked up Australian and New Zealand rights.
Movie centers on a woman, played by singer Norah Jones, who travels across the country searching for answers about love and finding comedic adventures along the way. Ensemble cast also includes Jude Law, David Strathairn, Rachel Weisz and Natalie Portman.
Wong co-wrote the script with Lawrence Block. He also produced, together with Jean Louis Piel, Jacky Pang and Wang Wei. Movie is currently in post-production.
Acclaimed Hong Kong director earlier helmed “Happy Together” — which earned him the director prize at Cannes — “In the Mood for Love” and “Chungking Express,” which the Weinsteins’ Miramax distributed and which won a number of Hong Kong Film Awards. Last year he released fantasy pic “2046,” which received critical praise but had trouble finding an audience.
