The Weinstein Co. has tapped veteran attorney Peter Hurwitz as general counsel.
Gotham-based Hurwitz will be involved in a broad range of legal matters for TWC and Dimension, including acquisitions, joint ventures and intellectual property. He will report to TWC co-chairs Bob and Harvey Weinstein, as well as to exec VP of the office of the co-chairman Charles Layton.
Hurwitz arrives at TWC after serving for four years as chief administrative officer for merchant banking at BMO Financial Group. There he worked closely with the principals of Halyard Capital, which specializes in media and communications investing.
Before that, Hurwitz served as general counsel and a principal at Chatterjee Group while it was affiliated with Soros Fund Management. Earlier, he worked at the international law firm Paul, Weiss, and Milbank, Tweed.
