WB spies IRA drama

DiCaprio, Benioff to produce pic

Warner Bros. will develop “The Infiltrator,” a drama based on a Matthew Teague article in April’s Atlantic Monthly that the studio has optioned.

Article concerns the campaign by British intelligence to undermine the Irish Republican Army by planting spies in top positions. Program helped the Brits negate much of the terrorist activity planned by the IRA, but at a high price.

Pic will be produced by Guymon Casady, Darin Friedman, Brad Simpson, Leonardo DiCaprio and David Benioff. DiCaprio gets first crack at starring. Benioff, who studied literature in Ireland, was too booked up to write and decided to supervise a screenwriter.

Pic’s a co-production of Management 360, Appian Way and Benioff. Each chased the rights and decided to team.

Benioff has been completing “The Kite Runner,” “Wolverine,” “For Whom the Bell Tolls” and “The Brothers.” He’s also producing “Spell for Chameleon” and “Kashmir” at WB.
