$4.2 mil facility being built near Auckland
AUCKLAND — Henderson Valley Studios near Auckland is building a $4.2 million, 21,500-square-foot soundstage that’s expected to be up and running by next summer. Facility aims to lure Hollywood studios that want to shoot Down Under but can’t find space in Australia.
Existing converted warehouse space on-site is the basis of current studios and will remain.
David Madigan of Technicians Guild said the studio would help iron out a boom-and-bust cycle for New Zealand crews.
Soundstage joins the $7 million, 24,500-square-foot, 39-foot-high studio at Peter Jackson’s Camperdown Studios complex in Wellington.
Nearby Kelly Park Film Village is planning a development on its 840-acre site, north of the city, in part to handle its new relationship with an Argentine film fund linked to a slate of Latin American films for the Weinstein Co.
