Where to grab a meal, drink or dessert between screenings

At first glance, Westwood seems to offer mostly chain restaurants and college hangouts, but on closer inspection, the neighborhood — just south of UCLA and host to most of this year’s L.A. Film Festival — actually boasts plenty of unique spots to grab a decent meal, drink or dessert between screenings.

1. W Los Angeles Hotel
930 Hilgard Ave.
Westwood’s most pleasant place for cocktails is poolside at the W’s Backyard bar. Share a burrata pizza or try the Vitamin Water-infused cocktails.
The hotel’s Nine Thirty restaurant has been remodeled with a rustic chic look and seasonal American cuisine, featuring housemade gravlax, sweet corn bisque and braised short ribs.

2. Tengu
10853 Lindbrook Drive
Try this stylish, bustling sushi spot during the 5:30-7:30 “hours of mischief” for half-price sushi and appetizers.

3. Napa Valley Grille
1100 Glendon Ave.
A comprehensive wine list makes this upscale chain a good choice for a more formal meal.

4. Falafel King
1959 Broxton Ave.
Starting out as a butcher shop in the 1970s, Falafel King is now the perfect quick prescreening snack stop. Try an eggplant salad in a pita for a change of pace.

5. Diddy Reise
926 Broxton Ave.
With cookies for 35¢ and ice cream sandwiches for just $1.25, the strongest endorsement for this longtime favorite is the endless line of students gathered outside. Get there before the crowds and sneak some cookies into a screening.

6. City Bean Coffee
10911 Lindbrook Drive
Locally owned and locally roasted, this is the place to get fully caffeinated before back-to-back films.

7. Maloney’s
1000 Gayley Ave.
Watering holes are few and far between in the Village, but this prototypical “Go Bruins” pub is a lively spot to grab a brew.
