The Weinstein Co. has come aboard to partner on domestic distribution of “Wordplay,” the crossword docu IFC Films snapped up at Sundance earlier this year.
The indie labels previously worked together on the rollout of “Transamerica,” and TWC already has international rights to the Patrick Creadon-helmed docu, which it will offer in Cannes.
Pic — acquired by IFC for about $1 million and subsequently screened at Tribeca — takes a look at New York Times crossword editor Will Shortz and the national tournament he founded.
Bill Clinton and Bob Dole, among others, make appearances.
TWC has in place an agreement with Cablevision’s Rainbow Media Holdings — corporate parent to IFC, AMC and WE — that pairs the companies in homevid distribution, foreign sales and the creation of a library for the cable properties.
