Chan pic rules Hong Kong B.O.

'Hood' is a co-production with China

HONG KONG — “Rob-B-Hood,” starring Jackie Chan, brought in $1.13 million in Hong Kong over the four-day holiday weekend (Monday was National Day).

And the kung-fu comedy grossed $2.6 million at the China box office. That number is expected to grow through the week, which is an extended National Week Holiday, so most people are off work.

Pic is a Hong Kong-China co-production between China’s Huayi Bros. and Chan’s JCE Movies.

Pic had a good showing in Thailand for the first four days with $604,000. Singapore saw $404,000 and Malaysia’s numbers were $400,000.

In Hong Kong, “The Devil Wears Prada” trailed in second place over the weekend and “My Super Ex-Girlfriend,” which opened Thursday was at No. 3.

Also opening Thursday was Taiwan horror pic “Silk.” It held the number four slot steadily with $108,846 for the weekend.

“The Banquet,” meanwhile, has had a mediocre showing in Hong Kong with $1.02 million cumulative earnings for 19 days.

Figures prove again that Hong Kong auds are all about laughs and don’t jump as readily at serious dramas.
