AMPAS grants branch status to makeup artists
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences board of governors has granted branch status to the roughly 120 makeup artists and hairstylists who are Acad members-at-large.
Academy has not added a branch, of which there will now be 15, since documakers were awarded their own in January 2001. The change calls for those in the new branch to elect one individual from among their ranks to represent them on the board, whose size will increase to 43.
Election materials will be sent to members of the new branch in time for them to select their governor before the December meeting of the board. The single-governor branch will be unique, but the representation of a craft area on the Acad board by a single governor is relatively common.
Costume designers, production designers, set decorators, sound editors, sound mixers and live-action short-film makers all have a single rep on the board.
