Morris tops at BAFTA/LA

Org appoints officer, five board members

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts/Los Angeles has elected Peter Morris chairman, replacing Gary Dartnall, who is stepping down after five years.

A Scotsman, Morris has a background in TV news as a senior reporter, newsreader and producer and is a former show business editor on two U.K. network TV shows. He is producing his first independent feature, “Trust Me,” currently in post-production.

Morris is well known as a moderator in the Q&A sessions at BAFTA/LA film screenings and organized BAFTA/LA’s 2005 Britannia awards.

The 12th BAFTA/LA Tea Party will be held on Sunday at the Park Hyatt Los Angeles to honor all the awards season nominees.

Org has also appointed a new officer and five new members to its board. Board director Bumble Ward has been elected treasurer and joins returning officers deputy chair David R. Ginsburg and secretary Alexander Rufus-Isaacs.

The new directors are Norma Acland, general counsel, production/distribution, at Carsey-Werner; producer Clare Baren, whose credits include DVD re-releases of “Snow White,” “Sleeping Beauty” and “Beauty and the Beast”; BAFTA/LA founding member and producer Katherine Haber; film producer and distributor Ian Jessel; and independent film producer and actress Julia Verdin.

Re-elected to new two-year terms are Duncan Clark, Melanie Greene, Paul Heller and Peter Morris.  They join members Ian Abercrombie, Ashok Amritraj, Gabrielle Kelly, Rolf Mittweg, Gavin Scott and Ian Wrigley.

Donald Haber continues as executive director.
