Kolkota wraps with ‘Kaalpurush’

Fest screened 225 pix from 53 countries

MUMBAI — India’s noncompetitive Kolkata Intl. Film Festival closed Friday with the screening of helmer Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s “Kaalpurush.”

The fest’s focus on China saw seven short films and Yang Li’s “Blind Shaft” (2003); Xiaoshuai Wang-helmed  “Shanghai Dreams” (2005); and  helmer Ning Ying’s “Perpetual Motion.”

The weeklong fest, which screened 225 films from 53 countries, also screened eight Ingmar Bergman classics and held retrospectives of the work of Italian filmmakers Luchino Visconti and Roberto Rossellini.
