SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — At the Santa Barbara Film Festival on Saturday, Riviera Award recipient Philip Seymour Hoffman, said of the acclaim he’s garnered for “Capote”: “It would be nice to be cool and laid back and say it doesn’t matter, but it’s a huge honor.”

Helmer and close pal Paul Thomas Anderson, who handed over the nod, extolled the Academy Award nominee’s talent, noting, “Phil has made it cool to be serious about what you do,” though he can be “a huge pain in the ass.”
