Will Smith is attached to star in the weighty Columbia Pictures drama “Seven Pounds,” which he and his Overbrook partner James Lassiter will produce with Escape Artists.
Scripted by Grant Nieporte, “Seven Pounds” is about a man intent on killing himself who falls in love before he can do the deed.
Smith and Lassiter just worked with Escape Artists on “The Pursuit of Happyness,” a Gabriele Muccino-directed drama he stars in with his son, Jaden. Columbia opens the film in December.
Smith has a full plate. He next stars as the last healthy man in post-apocalyptic New York in the Francis Lawrence-directed sci-fi thriller “I Am Legend” for Warner Bros., then will play a superhero having an existential crisis in “Tonight, He Comes” for Columbia Pictures. He’s also producing and starring in a bigscreen version of the TV series “It Takes a Thief.”
