Banff TV fest set to toast Haggis

Helmer-scribe honored with Award of Distinction

The Banff World Television Festival is honoring helmer-scribe Paul Haggis with the first NBC Universal Canada Award of Distinction.

Canadian-born Haggis wrote and directed this year’s best picture Oscar winner, “Crash,” and wrote and produced last year’s picture winner, “Million Dollar Baby.”

He also joins the list of guest speakers for Banff’s “In Conversation With” series of one-hour, one-on-one interviews. Other participants include Touchstone Television’s Howard Davine, FremantleMedia’s Gary Carter and Discovery’s Jane Root.

Haggis, who is attending Banff to discuss his latest project, “The Black Donnellys,” in development for NBC, will receive the award during a lunch at the festival on June 12.

Event runs June 11-14.
