Works rides on ‘Shortbus’

Distrib picks up rights to provocative drama

The Works U.K. Distribution has picked up all rights in Blighty to “Shortbus,” John Cameron Mitchell’s provocative drama whose explicit onscreen sex is certain to send British tabloids into a frenzy.

Pic, which preemed out of competition in the official selection at Cannes, is handled by Fortissimo Films, the Amsterdam- and Hong Kong-based sales agent.

“Shortbus” features an unlikely collection of characters who meet in a Gotham salon and work out their sexual issues in the most graphic ways possible.

“Shortbus” deal was sealed by Fortissimo’s senior VP Nicole Mackey and the Works U.K. Distribution’s managing director Mick Southworth and director of marketing Laurence Gornall.

The Works U.K. Distribution is part of stock market-listed the Works Media Group, formerly Civilian Content; it was formed a year ago when the local distribution team ankled from Content Film.
