The Bangkok Film Festival (Feb. 17 – 29) has set local title “Invisible Waves” as its opening film.
The highest-profile Thai movie of the year, pic is a psycho thriller about a man on the run from his past by helmer Pen-Ek Ratanaruang. It will world preem in competition at next month’s Berlin fest.
Ratanaruang’s cosmopolitan cast includes Japanese superstar Tadanobu Asano and Korean actress Kang Hye-jeong (“Oldboy,” “Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.”)
Bangkok fest will announce other competition titles in the coming weeks. Lineup will include 200 pics across sections spanning feature competition, doc competish, best movie from the Assn. of South East Asian nations, “new voices” and shorts.
