Hong Kong’s Golden Scene has picked up Japanese and Asian distribution rights to $20 million martial arts actioner “Three Kingdoms.”
Pic, which will lense in Febraury and is skedded for delivery at the end of next year, is helmed by Daniel Lee Yan Kong (“A Fighters Blues,” “Black Mask”). Cast is headed by Andy Lau with Sammo Hung set as action choreographer.
“Kingdoms” is produced by New Line’s regular partner in Korea Taewon Entertainment (“Shadowless Sword”) and Hong Kong’s Visualizer Entertainment. Rights in other territories are currently handled by Taewon.
Pic is based on one of China’s epic novels, which has provided source material for other movies including John Woo’s forthcoming “Battle of Red Cliff.”
