Fortune Star to co-produce ‘Rule’

Film to be written and directed by 'Maid's' Tong

SINGAPORE — News Corp.’s Fortune Star has pacted with Singaporean shingles Boku Films and Innoform Media to produce “Rule Number One,” a Mandarin-language action thriller.

Pic, skedded to start lensing mid-2007, is penned and helmed by Kelvin Tong (“The Maid”).

Story follows a man who makes emergency calls to the police informing them of something strange in his house.

“Rule” is to be financed by the increasingly proactive Media Development Authority of Singapore.

Deal gives worldwide distribution rights to Fortune Star, which will work closely to handle local distribution in Singapore and Malaysia.

Innoform and Tong’s Boku recently collaborated on “Men in White,” a $500,000 comedy again helmed by Tong, which is skedded for release in the first quarter of 2007.

Hong Kong-based Fortune Star is increasingly being positioned as 20th Century Fox’s low-budget local content arm in Asia.

Earlier this year it acquired library titles from China Star, launched a media content initiative and, as part of Fox’s new video operation in China, is to produce or finance a slate of movies for local auds.
