World Wrestling Entertainment unveiled its slate of original made-for-mobile content at the Bango Nexus confab in Gotham on Tuesday, with a range of short clips from game previews to wrestler profiles.
Around 75 videos a month will be ready for download to mobiles at the end of May, but WWE also lined up a series of premium packages, each with eight to ten five-minute videos focusing on a particular wrestling theme.
The first such package, available in July, will be a selection of extreme sports clips, “Hell on Your Cell,” with plans for six other packages featuring WWE legends, divas and fantasy gaming.
Aside from previews and post-event commentary for shows like “Friday Night Smackdown,” the mobile vids will include a news update, “WWE News Daily”; “Five More Questions,” with current wrestling champ John Cena answering quizzes from wireless subscribers; a weekly “Slam of the Week”; and tri-weekly clips of WWE divas, “Diva Shorts.”
WWE decided to greenlight mobile programming after witnessing a jump in Web visitors, which has upped to 13.5 million hits a month after the company created a more news-orientated site.
