Universal Pictures has hired Doug Neil as senior VP in charge of its digital marketing and promotions.
Neil, who oversaw Hollywood marketing for AOL, will report to Eddie Egan, co-prexy of marketing.
In addition to developing new-media marketing strategies, Neil will oversee U’s exploration of alternative digital platforms for use in promotions.
Neil first joined AOL in 2000 as a director of account services , managing the campaigns for AOL’s studio partners including Warner Bros., New Line, Universal and Sony, across AOL properties including America Online, Moviefone, Netscape, AIM and MapQuest.
In 2004, he was upped to director of entertainment strategy and sales development, overseeing the launch of several of AOL’s original content initiatives, including celebrity news site TMZ.com and In2TV, which allows people to download classic tube skeins.
Before AOL, Neil was a veep at Hollywood Ventures in charge of online and traditional ad campaigns for the kids entertainment company.
He’s also done exec stints with the Disney Channel, Hawaiian Airlines and Andersen Consulting.
