Web inks deal with BT and Alliance Atlantis
LONDON — Auds in the U.K. can now download episodes of the latest series of “CSI Miami” a week prior to broadcast following an agreement between terrestrial web Five, BT Media & Broadcast and distributor Alliance Atlantis.
It is the first time a “CSI” VOD service has launched outside the U.S.
Five, whose ratings depend to a large extent on the CBS Paramount and Alliance Atlantis “CSI” skeins, bowed the service yesterday (Oct. 12).
Subscribers also have access to the most recent series of “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “CSI: NY” and “CSI: Miami”
Long-term plan is for the entire “CSI” back catalog to be available for download.
Auds pay £2.49 ($4.50) for the untransmitted episode with other programs priced at $2.60. In return viewers have unrestricted access for two weeks.
Five CEO Jane Lighting said: “Five Download is an important part of Five’s digital media strategy.
“I’m delighted that we are launching the service with ‘CSI’ enabling us to offer the highest quality content to viewers with a viewing window that exceeds anything currently in the marketplace.”
VOD services of this kind are very much in the experimental stage in Blighty.
Earlier this year Channel 4 launched a similar initiative for “Des-perate Housewives” and “Lost.”
