Blighty is picking up the broadband habit as a spate of “free” offers drives take-up of high-speed Internet.

The latest survey from the U.K.’s Office for National Statistics shows that 40% of homes have broadband vs. 28% a year ago.

Companies including satcaster BSkyB and telco Carphone Warehouse are attempting to persuade Brits to take broadband by offering free subscriptions provided they pay for other services such as pay TV or phone services.
