RD-A1 will be able to record up to 130 hours on 1 disc

TOKYO — Toshiba will launch the first digital HD-DVDrecorder in Japan on July 14, getting a jump on the rival Blu-ray camp.

The RD-A1 will be able to record up to 130 hours of hi-def broadcasts on a 1 terabyte hard disk. Suggested retail price is $3,460.

Toshiba started selling its advanced HD-DVD players in Japan in late March and in the U.S. in April. The company has not yet announced the U.S. launch of the RD-A1.
