Sony throws Grouper a line

'Screen Bites' program uploads to video Web site

Marking its first collaboration with the video Web site since acquiring it this summer, Sony Pictures is putting classic scenes from its library of movies and TV shows online via Grouper.com in a bid to pump Internet sales.

Program, dubbed “Screen Bites,” has Sony selecting iconic moments, such as “Show me the money!” from “Jerry Maguire” and “You can’t handle the truth!” from “A Few Good Men,” that will be put on a separate channel on the Grouper site. Users, as well as other Netcos, will be able to embed the scenes from Grouper onto their own sites.

Each video will have a link inserted allowing viewers to buy a digital download of the pic from Movielink or a DVD from Sony’s own Web site.

More than 100 pics and skeins will be available via “Screen Bites” at launch, including “Charlie’s Angels,” “On the Waterfront,” “Spider-Man,” “Diff’rent Strokes” and “Fantasy Island.” Sony plans to add more content later.
