Much-delayed Sony Reader hits stores, not auds

Ten thousand available titles, 7,500 page turns and a capacity to hold 80 books at a time.

Those are a few of the numbers Sony touted last week as it unveiled its much-delayed Sony Reader ebook device.

But will it add up to more than the ebook hype of six years ago, when new book-reader devices went the way of the 8-track?

The Sony gadget’s lighter weight and eye-friendly E-Ink technology will help, but the fact that you have to buy books through Sony’s own store won’t.

And there’s another number that might scare off buyers: 350.

That’s how much it’ll cost to scoop up one of the things. And that’s before you even buy a book.
