Korean toon is a ‘Classic’

Jin-cheol will helm tube adaptation

SEOUL — South Korean feature “The Classic” (2003) is to be adapted into a 26-part animated TV series, as the animation sector continues to draw inspiration from film and TV drama.

Pic was first South Korean feature included in China’s quota of revenue-sharing releases.

The toon, produced by Dohwaji Entertainment, will be directed by Yang Jin-cheol, whose feature “Oseam” won a Grand Prix at the Annecy Animation fest in 2004. Dohwaji is negotiating with local broadcasters to secure an October 2007 TV release, while seeking investors in China. Budget is $2.6 million.
