Co. moving aggressively into digital realm

Discovery Communications has inked with Apple to offer a selection of its channels’ content on iTunes.

Discovery networks including Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Travel Channel, Discovery Health Channel and Discovery Kids will be participating in the distribution pact, part of Discovery’s increasingly aggressive digital strategy.

Last month, the company launched two U.S.-based broadband webs, Discovery Channel Beyond and Travel Channel Beyond.

Downloads of 12 skeins will be sold via iTunes, including the “World’s Best” series, “Amazing Babies,” “Kenny the Shark,” “Mythbusters” and “Breed All About It.” Discovery also will create vignettes for iTunes podcasting, such as behind-the-scenes footage from shows like “Deadliest Catch” and relationship tips from TLC’s “Shalom in the Home.”
