Helio orbits mobile youth

Users to access TV, vidgames, MySpace and more

One more mobile firm is targeting the entertainment biz.

Helio, a startup run jointly by Internet company Earthlink and Asian telco SK Telecom, aims to hit twentysomethings with a mix of TV, vidgame and other offerings. It has signed up content from a number of nets, including Fox Sports, MTV and Spike.

Company also hooked up with Fandango to provide ticket sales, continuing ticket provider’s pattern of deals with mobile phone companies like Ericsson.

Helio, which launched Tuesday, is an MVNO, which means it leases spectrum from a wireless company and uses it to market content and services to a demo. It follows earlier launches like AMP’D and conglom MNVOs like Disney’s recently announced effort.

One feature is good news for News Corp.: Helio allows mobile users to post directly to MySpace.
