Fox rocks web suite

P. Levinsohn logs online prez position

Peter Levinsohn, an 18-year Fox veteran, has been tapped as prexy of Fox Interactive Media, which houses all online businesses for the conglom, including MySpace.com, the IGN gaming site and Scout.

Effective Nov. 27, he replaces current president Ross Levinsohn, who started up the unit in July 2005. Over the past 16 months, the division’s employee roster has grown to 1,200.

Peter Levinsohn has been president of Digital Media for the Fox Entertainment Group since 2004, responsible for developing and managing overall digital media strategy.

He was a key architect in the digital revenue-sharing agreement with Fox affiliates; he also led the Fox on Demand effort, which brought primetime series to the Internet on an ad-supported basis through MySpace.com and the MyFoxLocal Web sites.

Additionally, he’s headed Fox’s development of the VOD business and electronic sell-through for film and television product, including recent deals with iTunes, Amazon, AOL, MSN, MovieLink and CinemaNow.

Concurrent with those duties, he was president of worldwide pay TV, where he oversaw strategy and distribution for licensing Fox’s feature film and television programming to pay television, pay-per-view, video-on-demand and electronic sell-through outlets throughout the world.

In making the announcement, News Corp. prez-chief operating officer Peter Chernin praised Peter Levinsohn’s leadership and the fact that he has “overseen one of the most aggressive digital expansions of any media organization.”

The two Levinsohns are distant cousins. Ross Levinsohn’s exit was mutually agreed upon with Fox. Chernin added in his announcement, “I know Ross will be successful in whatever he chooses to do next, and we hope there is an opportunity for us to participate.”

Peter Levinsohn joined 20th Century Fox in 1989 as a manager in the international theatrical division.
