Web content soared nearly 30% to $5.95 billion
The Japanese media content market passed the ¥11 trillion ($95 billion) mark for the first time in 2004, with the fastest-growing segment being online content, including games and music, according to a survey by the Communications Ministry.While the total content market grew 1.9% in 2004 — the latest year surveyed by the ministry — online content soared nearly 30% to $5.95 billion. Meanwhile, the market for visual software, including TV shows and films, grew 3.2% in the same period, to $43.75 billion. The growth in the online sector was largely driven by the rapid expansion of high-speed networks for PCs and mobile devices capable of distributing large quantities of data, the survey said.
