Bob Teitel and George Tillman’s State Street Pictures has pacted with Jada Toys to develop a series of entertainment projects based on the toy company’s brand Chub City.
State Street plans to produce an animated television series and live-action feature film based on the property. Companies will tout the partnership at the upcoming Comic-Con Convention. The Chub City line centers on the adventures of six hip kids — the Chub Dubs — who live in a multiethnic neighborhood and whose lives center around hip-hop and hot rides. Brand launched in July 2005.
The Chub City toy line is a “fresh subculture with universally relatable characters and themes that we believe will appeal to the mass teen market,” said Teitel, who will produce the projects along with Tillman.
Company veep Rene Rigal is spearheading development. The series and feature have yet to be set up at a studio or network.
State Street’s credits include the “Barbershop” franchise, “Soul Food” and “Roll Bounce.”
