Cartoon Network has tapped former MTV Europe exec Peter Dougherty to oversee all branding for the kids net.
Dougherty will assume a newly created position, senior VP of branding, responsible for the direction and communication of the Cartoon brand and its multiple properties to target U.S. audiences.
Exec will oversee all of Cartoon’s brand extensions and initiatives, including on-air and franchise presentations; inhouse creative services responsible for print, electronic and outdoor advertising; sponsored promotions, sweepstakes and contests; and creative development for the channel’s licensing and merchandising division, Cartoon Network Enterprises.
Atlanta-based Dougherty will report to Cartoon exec VP-general manager Jim Samples. Department heads who will now report to Dougherty are Gary Albright, creative services senior VP; Pola Changnon, VP of on-air and exec producer of program production; Sean Akins, creative director for Toonami and Miguzi; and Cynthia Rapp, VP and creative director for Cartoon Network Enterprises.

Dougherty most recently served as an independent creative consultant, working on various branding projects for Nicktoons, Nickelodeon Intl., MTV, Nick Japan and CMT.
Before that he spent 11 years at MTV Europe, where he was responsible for expanding the MTV pan-European feed into multiple regionalized channels while establishing the group’s youth brand across diverse cultures.
