Sore thumbs are about to get even more tender.
Toronto-based QuickPlay Media is launching the first audio player service designed specifically for the BlackBerry, the ubiquitous and addictive device slyly dubbed the “Crackberry.”
Users will be able to tune in to audiocasts from both free and subscription-based outlets.
The big advantage over standard podcasting is that users won’t have to download files ahead of time and, because it’s streamed, it doesn’t take up a lot of space. Audiocasts, between five and 10 minutes in duration, will be updated throughout the day.
QuickPlay is negotiating with news outlets and other information providers. The list of services will be available as of the June 15 launch date.
