Mobile TV in South Korea has passed the 1 million subscriber mark seven months after the launch of the service.The Korean Digital Mobile Broadcasting (DMB) standard is available on terrestrial and satellite. Special committee for DMB reported that 320,000 broadcast-enabled cell phones had been sold by mid-June and a further 680,000 units had been installed in cars and busses. Sales have risen to 10,000 units a day since the beginning of the World Cup soccer tourney in June. Other factors have contributed to the acceleration: the spread of broadcast networks beyond Seoul into the regions, coverage in tunnels and an increase in the variety of gadgets that can receive the service. Committee forecasts subscribers will exceed 2 million by the end of the year.
