Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim has greenlit production on a second season of “The Boondocks.”
Cabler has ordered 20 new episodes of the skein from creator Aaron McGruder based on his comicstrip of the same name.
The show’s Nov. 6 debut was the highest-ranked series premiere in Adult Swim history.
On Jan. 10, the skein picked up a nom for comedy series at the 37th annual NAACP Image Awards.
Toon revolves around 10-year-old revolutionary Huey, his 8-year-old brother and their legal guardian and grandfather in the suburbs.
Ten episodes of the initial 15-episode order have already aired, and the new episodes are skedded to air late this year.
McGruder is creator and exec producer. His production company, Rebel Base, produces in association with Sony Pictures Television. Reginald Hudlin also exec produces.
Adult Swim shares channel space with Cartoon Network and airs Saturday-Thursday from 11 p.m.-6 a.m. ET.
