The Mouse House has expanded further into the Indian telco market with a deal announced Thursday that will see Reliance Communications offering Disney mobisodes, including 3-D animation, to its millions of mobile phone customers.
Deal follows April’s agreement between Walt Disney Internet Group and Indian telco Airtel to distribute mobisodes on cell phones. Mouse already has mobile content deals in 12 Asia-Pacific territories including China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Reliance Communications, claims 21 million mobile phone customers, just over a quarter of India’s 80 million users. With Airtel parent Bharti Tele-Ventures claiming 19.8 million mobile-phone customers, Mouse now has a reach of almost half India’s market.
