Apple bobbing for six new Eye skeins

'Survivor,' 'CSI' franchise added to iTunes

CBS loaded six shows for sale on Apple’s iTunes: “Survivor,” “Numbers,” “NCIS,” and all three versions of the “CSI” franchise, the original, “CSI: Miami” and “CSI: NY.”

All will be sold, as is Apple’s practice, for $1.99 an episode.

The new CBS offerings include episodes from the just-completed 2005-06 season and earlier episodes for some series. Shows from the coming TV season will be added as they air in the fall.

Deal, which includes two seasons of “CSI” and three seasons of “Numbers,” “NCIS” and “Survivor,” broadens CBS’ relationship with Apple.

Earlier this year the Eye added highlights from the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament and Showtime’s “Sleeper Cell” and “Weeds.”

“We believe we can attract an audience we would not be able to attract through the network; iTunes attracts a younger audience,” said Larry Kramer, president of CBS digital media.

The Eye already sells several shows on Google Video and on-demand via Comcast. Episodes of “Survivor” also are available on CBS.com.

“This is the year of ideas,” Kramer said. “We like the idea of going up on iTunes now because we think it will help the new season.”

Kramer said the net is hatching aggressive plans to promote Katie Couric on digital platforms when she joins CBS News in the fall.

Warner Bros. is also expanding its online TV presence.

Studio has added a number of short-lived network series to In2TV, the ad-supported TV service on AOL.com.

Grouped under a new “Gone But Not Forgotten TV” category, skeins include “Max Headroom,” “Center of the Universe,” “The Michael Richards Show,” and “All About the Andersons.”

It is also adding several reality skeins to a new “Get Real” category on In2TV including “ElimiDate,” “People’s Court” and “Change of Heart.”

In2TV launched in March with dozens of classic Warner Bros. TV shows.
