DreamWorks Animation will bow the animated short film “First Flight” on May 19 in select New York and L.A. theaters prior to showings of “Over the Hedge.”
DreamWorks Animation vets Cameron Hood and Kyle Jefferson wrote and directed the computer-animated short. Pic tells the story of an organized businessman whose perspective on life is changed through an unexpected encounter with a tiny bird.
Hood and Jefferson started working on the film more than three years ago between jobs on various DreamWorks projects. In late 2004, duo showed it to studio execs who then agreed to support the completion of the project. “First Flight” made its debut at the recent South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, and is currently showing at the Tribeca Film Festival.
“First Flight” was produced by Maryann Garger and co-produced by Pilar Flynn. Hood has been working as a professional animator and teacher for more than eight years and began his career with DreamWorks in 1997. Jefferson has been with DreamWorks since 1996.
