Cablers offer record number of Indian films

After a breakout year for Bollywood movies in America, Bodvod and Time Warner Cable will bring New York and New Jersey subscribers a record number of Indian films through video-on-demand.

Bodvod has signed content deals with two of Bollywood’s largest studios — UTV and Adlabs — that will bring their biggest blockbusters to the U.S., subtitled in English. Monthly VOD transactions have increased 150% since 2005.

Bollywood fans will be able to watch India’s official submission to this year’s Academy Awards, “Rang de basanti,” when it premieres on Time Warner Cable in November, before Oscar voters have a chance to vote on it. Other titles that will be made available include “Bluffmaster,” “Swades,” “Taxi No. 9211” and “15 Park Ave.”

Current theatrical releases “Don,” “Jaan-e-mann” and “Umrao jaan” will air next year.
