Warner Bros. has acquired German rights to Japanese toon feature “Brave Story,” helmed by Koichi Chigira.
Recently completed movie is produced by Fuji TV and Gonzo Digimation and sold by Pony Canyon.
Warner is already the local distribber in Japan and has first option on certain other territories. Germany is the first additional pickup.
The 1 billion yen ($9 million) pic is set as one of the year’s biggest blockbusters. Release in late summer will put it head-to-head with Goro Miyazaki’s “Earthsea” and Pixar’s “Cars.”
“Brave Story” is based on a comic book by Miyuki Miyabe about a boy who lives in a world called Vision.
