Peter Schlessel, former Columbia prexy, and Robert Magnoni have brokered a deal between Twentieth Century Fox and two video veterans to launch a new distribution outfit in Australia and New Zealand.
New company, Horizon One Entertainment, is headed by Jeff Harrington, former co-director of Oz’s leading home entertainment retailer Video Ezy, Scott Clayton and financier Sean Rothsey.
Horizon One will typically acquire rights to three independent films per year, which will be handled in theatrical, video and TV markets through the Fox arrangement.
“The kind of relationship we have sealed with Fox is unique in this market and gives us a great platform for growth. Despite reports, the video retail market and the theatrical sector are both stable in Australia, making this a great time to launch a new company,” Harrington said. “We will be looking for high-end genre pictures in the ‘Saw 3’ kind of category.”
