CANNES — Singapore-based music distributor Soundbuzz has launched a full song and video download service in India with the country’s largest mobile phone company Airtel.
Service will provide international songs and country’s largest repertoire of Bollywood and regional artists. Airtel has already sold ove 75 million downloads of ringbacks and ringtones. “As network capacities and handset capabilities expand to include music playback and greater storage, mobile music will evolve rapidly,” Soundbuzz CEO, Sudhanshu Sarronwala said.
Deal follows similar service launches with M1 in Singapore and Optus in Australia.
At a conference in Hong Kong last week consultancy giant PriceWaterhouseCoopers forecast hat the Indian mobile music market will exceed $1 billion a year by 2010.
