Streisand Shows Restraint

Performing in St. Paul on Tuesday night, Barbra Streisand’s political comments were considerably more muted than her recent match with a heckler. “I understand the Republican National Convention is going to be here in 2008,” the singer said after her opening number, “Starting Here, Starting Now.”All I’m going to say is they couldn’t have picked a lovelier city to host it.” With a wink, she added, “There’s more I want to say, but I won’t.” The Star Tribune reports that even a few Republicans showed up, and the only protest seemed to be over the $450 to $850 ticket prices. Proceeds will go to liberal causes. Streisand only fleetingly referred to the incident last month when she shouted at expletive at a heckler who objected to an anti-Bush portion of the concert that included a W impersonator. “You can take the girl out of Brooklyn, but you can’t take the Brooklyn out of the girl,” she said. “I speak my mind.”
